The family owned Rancho Army Navy store opened in Temecula in 1987. Owner Carlos Hidalgo Alvarez, an established businessman of Orange, bought the former Frontier Museum building from John Bianchi in 1986. The Rancho Army Navy Store is located at 27999 Jefferson Avenue in Temecula and can be seen from Interstate 15 near the Rancho California Road off ramp in Temecula (look for the American flag).

In 1986, Carlos and his wife Emma moved to Temecula from Tustin, California. They liked the country feel of Temecula and the historic town. Carlos modeled the new Rancho Army Navy Store after his first retail business, the Army Navy Store in Orange, California.

Carlos opened the historic Orange Army Navy Store in 1955. Some years later, Carlos invited his brother, Tony Sr. to join the business. Over time the business grew and eventually the business tripled in size. The Orange store is still operated by the Tony, Sr. Alvarez family at 131 South Glassell St., one of the few historic family businesses still around.

The Alvarez family and long time employees - who began their careers as teenagers at the Orange store – enjoy serving the needs of Temecula and nearby residents. We have enjoyed years of service in the local area.

The Rancho Army Navy Store continues to fill a niche as we evolve in today’s economy. It has been many years and the store has adapted and grown with the times. Competition, the Internet and the way corporations have a large hand in what used to be small business territory makes the Rancho Army Navy Store unique. Retail family business is not always easy, however, our loyal customers and our attitude “customer satisfaction is important above all” keeps the business on track.
